How to Host a Fair Giveaway on Discord (and Keep Alts Out)
Run Discord giveaways people trust: start one in a single command, set requirements, block alt accounts, reward boosters with bonus entries and reroll winners.
Giveaways are one of the best ways to celebrate a milestone, thank your members or grow your server. They also attract alt accounts and people who join, enter and leave. A good giveaway is quick to start, fair to real members and hard to farm.

The fastest way: one command #
If you just need a giveaway right now, start it in a single command:

The full setup panel #
Run /giveaway start with no options to open the setup panel. It has four tabs:

Keeping it fair #
These options live in the Requirements tab and are part of Pro:
- Minimum account age keeps brand new alt accounts out.
- Minimum time in server stops people joining just to enter.
- Required roles, such as Verified or Level 5, limit entries to real members.
- Blocked roles, such as Muted, keep rule breakers out.
- Booster only for special giveaways just for your boosters.
- Bypass roles let staff or VIPs skip every requirement.
When someone does not meet a requirement, Ethvex tells them exactly why, so you do not get a flood of confused questions.
Rewarding your best members #
Bonus entries give chosen roles extra chances to win, from 2x up to 100x. A common setup is 2x entries for server boosters, which is a nice thank you that does not exclude anyone else.
After it ends #
- DM the winners with a custom message and DM the host with the results.
- Give winners a role automatically.
- Announce winners in a different channel if you like.
- Reroll with
/giveaway reroll <id>if a winner does not claim, picking 1 to 50 new winners.
Managing running giveaways #
Every giveaway has a short 6 character ID. Find it with /giveaway list, then use /giveaway pause, resume, end or cancel with that ID. Pausing freezes the timer and stops new entries until you resume.
Tips for better giveaways #
- Pick prizes your members want, like Nitro, game keys or exclusive roles.
- Keep the duration short, 1 to 3 days, so excitement does not fade.
- Use a dedicated channel so giveaways do not get buried in chat.
- Announce winners publicly so everyone can see the giveaway was real.
- Follow Discord's rules and never require members to pay or invite people in exchange for entries.
