How to Set Up Server Logs on Discord (All Free)

Something happened in your server and nobody knows who did it. A message vanished, a role changed, someone got banned, a channel was deleted. Discord's built in audit log helps a little, but it is buried in settings, does not show deleted message content and only keeps entries for a while.

Step 1: Create your log channels #
Make a private category called something like Logs, visible only to your staff. Inside it, create one channel per category, for example #mod-logs, #member-logs, #message-logs, #server-logs and #voice-logs. Small servers can also send everything to a single #logs channel.
Keep log channels private. Deleted message logs can contain things people did not want everyone to see.
Step 2: Open the logging panel #
Run /logconfig (or %logs). You need the Manage Server permission. A panel opens with each log category, its channel and an on or off switch.
Step 3: Pick a channel for each category #
Choose the channel for each category from its dropdown and switch it on. Logs start arriving straight away.
Step 4: Turn off what you do not need #
Open the events page for any category and switch single events off. For example, you might keep message deletes but turn off reaction removals if your server is very active. This is free too.
