How to Set Up Verification on Discord (Captcha, Button and More)
Stop bots and raid accounts before they can post. Set up free Discord verification with a captcha, a button, a reaction, a voice channel or a passphrase, plus auto kick and a raid lockdown.
Spam bots and raid accounts do the most damage in the first few seconds after they join. A verification gate stops that: new members only see one channel until they prove they are a real person, then the rest of your server opens up.

Pick a verification method #

Start with Captcha if your server is public or listed anywhere. It is the hardest one for bots to get past.

Run /verifyconfig (or %verify). A setup wizard walks you through everything:
Method
Choose one of the five methods.
Method settings
For a captcha, pick the difficulty, how long a code lasts and how many tries people get.
Message
Design the verification message as plain text, an embed or a container.
Roles
Pick the Verified role members get, and optionally an Unverified role new members get until they pass.
Channel
Choose the verification channel. Unverified members can only see this one.
Activate
Review everything and press Activate. Ethvex posts the message and sets up the channel permissions for you.
Drag the Ethvex role above your Verified and Unverified roles in Server Settings → Roles, or it cannot give them out.
Captcha settings that matter #
- Difficulty. Easy uses 5 characters, Medium 6 and Hard 7 with a wider character set.
- Attempts. 1 to 10 tries. 3 is a good balance.
- On fail. What happens after the last wrong try: kick, ban, give a Suspect role so staff can keep an eye on them, or send the member to Manual Review with an alert to your staff.
