How to Make Temporary Voice Channels on Discord (Join to Create)
Set up Join to Create on Discord so every member gets their own private voice room that they can rename, lock and manage, and that deletes itself when empty.

Static voice channels like Gaming 1, Gaming 2 and Gaming 3 never quite work. Half of them sit empty, the one you want is full, and there is no way to get a private room for your group without asking a moderator. Temporary voice channels solve this. Members join one channel and instantly get a room of their own, and the room cleans itself up when everyone leaves.
This feature is usually called Join to Create, and this guide shows you how to set it up with Ethvex in a few minutes.
How Join to Create works #
A member joins the trigger channel
You set one voice channel as the trigger, for example ➕ Join to Create.
Ethvex creates their room
A new voice channel is created instantly, named after them, like Alex's Room.
They are moved in and made owner
The member lands in their room and gets owner controls to rename, lock, hide and manage it.
The room deletes itself
When the last person leaves, the room disappears, so your channel list stays clean.
Step 1: Create a trigger channel #
Make a normal voice channel to act as the entrance. Put it in the category where you want the rooms to appear, and give it a clear name such as ➕ Create a Room.
Step 2: Add it in Ethvex #
Run /jointocreate (or %jtc). You need the Manage Server permission. Press Add Trigger and pick your voice channel. Ethvex needs Manage Channels and Move Members to create rooms and move people into them.
Step 3: Configure the rooms #
Press Configure next to your trigger, then Edit Settings:
| Setting | What it does | Suggested |
|---|---|---|
| Room Name | The name of each new room. Use {user}, {displayname}, {count} or {trigger}. | {displayname}'s Room |
| User Limit | How many people fit in a room. 0 means unlimited, up to 99. | 0 for chill rooms, 5 for squads |
| Bitrate | Audio quality from 8 to 384 kbps. Higher needs more server boosts. | 64 to 96 |
| Cooldown | Seconds a member waits before creating another room. | 10 |
| Max Active Rooms | How many rooms each member can own at once. 0 means unlimited. | 1 |
You can also set the default privacy of new rooms: Public (anyone can join), Locked (visible, but only invited members can join) or Hidden (invisible except to invited members). And you can make rooms persistent so they stay even after everyone leaves.
Step 4: Turn it on #
Press Enable on the main panel, then join your trigger channel to test it. You should be moved into a fresh room with your name on it within a second.
What room owners can do #
Every new room gets a small panel in its voice chat with a Manage Room button. Owners can:
- Rename the room to anything they like.
- Set a limit on how many people can join.
- Lock it so only invited people can join, or Hide it from everyone else.
- Allow or Deny specific members.
- Kick someone out of the room.
- Transfer ownership to someone else before they leave.
- Delete the room when they are done.
Extra touches worth setting up #
- Per user room limits. With Max Active Rooms set to 1, a member who already owns a room gets a friendly message with a link straight back to it, instead of a second room.
- A public info panel. Press Send Panel to post a short explanation with a Manage My Room button in a text channel, so new members understand how it works.
- A room log. Pick a log channel to see every room created and deleted, with the owner and the trigger.
- Several triggers. On Pro you can add unlimited triggers with different settings, for example 5 person Squad rooms and unlimited Chill rooms. The free plan includes 1 trigger.
Wrapping up #
Join to Create makes voice feel effortless. Members always have a space for their group, moderators stop babysitting voice channels, and your channel list stays tidy. Every option is covered in the Join to Create docs.
