Slash and Prefix Commands
Two ways to run every command, and a few things that make them nicer to use.
Slash commands #
Type / in any channel and Discord shows a list of commands with their options. Slash commands are the easiest way to use Ethvex because Discord guides you through each option and checks the input for you.
Prefix commands #
Every command also works with the % prefix. For example %ban @user Spamming does the same thing as /ban. Prefix commands are quicker to type once you know them, and many of them have short aliases, like %b for ban or %to for timeout.
| Slash | Prefix | |
|---|---|---|
| How to start | /command | %command |
| Options | Filled in by Discord | Typed after the command |
| Aliases | No | Yes, many commands have short ones |
| Private replies | Yes, where it makes sense | Posted in the channel, errors clean up |
| Extra flags | Shown as options | Like -nodm and -d 7 |
Helpful extras #
- Typo suggestions. If you mistype a prefix command, Ethvex suggests the closest match, for example
Did you mean: ban? - Cooldowns. Most commands have a short cooldown of 3 to 10 seconds so they cannot be spammed.
- Tidy errors. Error messages from moderation commands delete themselves after about 5 seconds so they do not clutter your channels. Successful actions stay as a record.
- Mentions. Mentioning the bot on its own shows a quick intro. This has a one minute cooldown per person.
